Sepsis

The subject of how to spot Sepsis (also known as septicaemia) came up during a PPG meeting.  The Practice arranged for those in the group who wanted, to have sepsis training.

They found it very interesting and following this sepsis leaflets were bought to be given out to patients.

Possible Signs of Sepsis in Children under 5 years:

  • Is not feeding
  • Is vomiting repeatedly
  • Hasn’t had a wee or wet nappy for 12 hours.

Any Child:

  • Is breathing very fast
  • Has a ‘fit’ or convulsion
  • Looks mottled, bluish or pale
  • Has a rash that does not fade when you press it
  • Is very Lethargic or difficult to wake
  • Feels cold to touch

Adults:

  • Slurred speech
  • Extreme shivering or muscle pain
  • Passing no urine (in a day)
  • Severe breathlessness
  • It ‘feels like I’m going to die’
  • Skin mottled or discoloured
